After the 2019-2020 spring sports season was canceled because of the pandemic, the Silver Fox varsity baseball team has picked up where it left off earlier, after winning the 2018-2019 Class 5A state title against Blythewood.
As is customary in the baseball playoffs, that was a best-two-of-three state championship series, and it went the full three games before Dutch Fork won its first varsity baseball state title on record.
And now, just a few weeks into the 2020-2021 season, the Silver Foxes have lost only one preseason game (to Fox Creek), and they have won all five of their regular season games, with each one being a Region 5-5A matchup.
The Silver Foxes and Lexington Wildcats lead Region 5-5A for now, with White Knoll, Chapin and River Bluff following.
Dutch Fork will take on River Bluff today, Thursday in another region contest, after defeating the Gators 12-1 on Monday. The Foxes will then go out of region to play three games, and then settle into a mix of region and non-region matchups for the remainder of the season.
And there is more.
Dutch Fork’s boys varsity lacrosse team is also riding a wave of victories with zero losses (4-0) in the league and a 6-1 count overall.
In a lacrosse season that begins a little earlier than other spring sports, the Silver Foxes have lost only to Mann, of Greenville and recorded wins against nearby opponents such as White Knoll, A. C. Flora, Chapin, River Bluff and Blythewood.
Dutch Fork was to take on Lexington today, Thursday, at 7:30 pm, and then look ahead to Irmo on April 9 for the next game.
