In 2011, he was hired by the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce as an administrative hearing officer. In 2017, he joined the Division of Procurement Services with the South Carolina State Fiscal Accountability Authority, Office of State Procurement. In his role as a procurement manager, Dawson served as a consultant to state agencies by assisting and providing guidelines with procurement strategy, policy development, purchasing methods, sources of supply, policies and procedures, negotiations and compliance with S.C. Consolidated Procurement Code. Dawson joined Lexington District One in March 2022 as the procurement coordinator.

Dawson graduated from Curtin University of Technology in Western Australia with a degree in commerce. He then received a Bachelor of Law with first-class honors from Murdoch University, also in Western Australia.
