Chapin Garden Club hosted a public event to commemorate Arbor Day December 7. The club selected Chapin Town Hall as the location for its 2018 Arbor Day tree – a variety native to the area, the Eastern Redbud (Cercis Canadensis).
Representative Chip Huggins was on hand to open the ceremony with the pledge of allegiance. Chapin Mayor David Knight proclaimed December 7 as Chapin Arbor Day and praised garden club efforts to encourage tree planting in the area.
The club dedicated the tree in recognition of The Chapin Times. Attendees enjoyed the clear brisk morning warming up with hot cider and cookies following the dedication.
