Ebonee Davis, a 2023 graduate of Dutch Fork High School and daughter of Angelia Davis, is the recipient of PAGE Five’s 2023 Tami Richardson Gifted & Talented Scholarship.
This is a $1,000 merit-based scholarship. She will be attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where she will major in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Davis plans to work in the interdisciplinary field of imaging technology.
One G&T program experience that Ms. Davis found particularly influential was the Foundational Documents Dinner Party in AP Government and Politics.
“The premise of the assignment was to speak on political ideals from the perspective of a specific document. This experience strengthened my ability to consider topics through different lenses. Considering other perspectives is an important skill to have, and I’m glad to have learned that lesson during my time in Lexington Richland 5,” Davis said.
In addition to taking numerous courses for gifted students, she also participated in extracurricular activities in high school. One of her most significant activities was her involvement in Beta Club, where she served as Secretary. In Beta Club, she helped organize and work on projects for the community.
“I enjoyed the sense of community that we built and our ability to bond over helping others,” Davis said. “My greatest takeaway from Beta Club is that there are always places to serve, you just need to look for them.”
To be eligible for the PAGE Five Tami Richardson Gifted & Talented Scholarship, applicants must be high school seniors in good standing at a District Five high school and participants in International Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced Placement (AP), and/or Honors courses. They must also be on course to graduate from high school in the spring and enroll in college for the fall term of the same year. Additionally, they are required to submit an application and essay. Each candidate is rated equally on their academic achievements and the quality of their essay.
PAGE Five is a volunteer, non-profit support network for parents, educators, policy-makers, and residents of School District Five of Lexington and Richland counties who are interested in enhancing education and advocating for gifted and talented students in School District Five. Members of the organization promote education for gifted and talented students, disseminate information on and build awareness about gifted education, provide enrichment opportunities, and assist families with scholarships and tuition aid for gifted students.
