Richland County, SC – The Richland County Sheriff’s Department has arrested five teenagers in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on January 28, 2025, in the 1000 block of Miles Bowman Rd.
Deputies responded to reports of gunfire around 9:30 p.m. and discovered a 23-year-old man deceased in the front passenger seat of a vehicle. A woman, also at the scene, suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body and was transported for medical treatment. Investigators determined that four suspects fired approximately 70 rounds into the vehicle.
Arrests began the following day, January 29, when authorities took Peyton Kirby and a 15-year-old suspect into custody at his residence. Both face charges of Murder, Attempted Murder, and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime.
On January 31, Jackson Layne, 17, was arrested in northeast Richland County and charged as an adult with the same offenses.
The fourth suspect, a 16-year-old, was taken into custody on February 7 and faces Murder, Attempted Murder, and Weapons Possession charges. A fifth 16-year-old suspect has been charged with Obstruction for their role in the case.
Sheriff Leon Lott stated that the investigation revealed the shooting stemmed from an earlier altercation between the suspects and the deceased victim.
