East Coast Premiere of Dreams in Flight Comes to Columbia on February 22
Columbia, SC – The South Carolina Philharmonic, recipient of the 2024 Governor’s Award for the Arts, continues its 60th Anniversary Season with a highly anticipated performance featuring GRAMMY®-winning banjo duo Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn. The concert, Americana: Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn, takes place Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 7:30 PM at the Koger Center for the Arts.
The evening’s program highlights American composers, opening with Carlos Simon’s Amen! and Samuel Barber’s Symphony No. 1 in One Movement. The concert will conclude with the East Coast premiere of Dreams in Flight, a symphonic banjo concerto composed by Fleck and Washburn.
Tickets range from $36 to $83 and are available at scphilharmonic.com or by calling the Koger Center Box Office at (803) 251-2222 (Mon-Fri, 9 AM-5 PM). Half-price student rush tickets will be available 30 minutes before the concert for in-person purchases in select sections.
About the Artists
Béla Fleck, an 18-time GRAMMY® Award winner, is renowned for his ability to blend bluegrass, jazz, and classical music. His diverse career includes his groundbreaking ensemble Béla Fleck & The Flecktones, collaborations with legendary artists, and concertos for full symphony orchestras. His recent album, My Bluegrass Heart, marks a celebrated return to his roots.
Abigail Washburn is a GRAMMY®-winning clawhammer banjo player and folk singer-songwriter known for her critically acclaimed solo albums and unique work in folk musical diplomacy with China.

A fusion of Appalachian folk traditions, original compositions, and classical orchestration, Dreams in Flight explores the journey of human aspiration for a better life.
