Inaugural Bridge Development League Season a Success

School District Five has completed the inaugural season of the Bridge Development League, launched in partnership with the Irmo Chamber Recreation Commission (ICRC).

The Bridge Development League is designed for middle school-aged children (ages 9–14) to develop fundamental skills and prepare for higher levels of competition. The program focuses on teaching game rules, strengthening athletic ability, and introducing the expectations and demands of competitive sports in a supportive environment.

Basketball served as the pilot sport for the league this winter, featuring boys ages 11–14 and girls ages 9–14.

“We are truly grateful for our partnership with School District Five and the inaugural Bridge League season with youth basketball was an overwhelming success,” Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission Operations Superintendent Jason White said. “It was great to see so many students representing their schools with such pride. The feedback from parents, coaches and players has been incredibly positive, and we’re excited to watch our young athletes grow and excel in the sports they love. We look forward to supporting and cheering for them in the Bridge League for many years to come.”

ICRC and School District Five coordinated the use of school facilities.

“The success of the inaugural season highlights the power of community partnerships and the shared commitment to serving families across the district,” Superintendent Dr. Akil E. Ross, Sr. said. “Planning is already underway to continue growing the Bridge Development League and expanding opportunities for young athletes in the future.”
