Jason Branham Will Not Seek Re-Election

Richland County Councilman Jason Branham announces he will not seek re-election to county council in 2026, concluding his current term representing District 1.

“I grew up in Richland County with a deep respect for public service,” Branham says. “From an early age, I followed local news, learned our state’s history, and developed a strong interest in how local government works. While I always felt called to serve, I believed elected office should come only after gaining experience and perspective.”

That belief guides a path that includes a career in law, service on the Board of Zoning Appeals, and later serving as chair of the Planning Commission, before earning the opportunity to represent District 1 on Richland County Council.

During his time on county council, Branham focuses on transparency, accountability, and responsible growth. His work includes helping modernize the Land Development Code, strengthening transportation investment through increased penny tax funding, and advancing long-overdue infrastructure improvements in Northwest Richland County, including progress on Broad River Road. Throughout his tenure, he works to balance growth with the needs and character of local communities.

“At the end of this term, I will take a break from elected office,” Branham says. “I am deeply grateful to my wife, Nellie, our daughters, Ali and Summer, and to the family, friends, colleagues, and county staff who support this work. Most importantly, I thank the residents of Northwest Richland County for placing their trust in me.”

Branham emphasizes that his decision represents a pause, not a departure from public service.

“I remain committed to Richland County through continued civic involvement and my work at Tide Law Firm, and I will be ready to serve again if the right opportunity arises,” he says. “Until then, I look forward to a productive final year on county council and remain available to help.”
