LEXINGTON, S.C. — Lexington County School District One will open its application process for four-year-old kindergarten (4K) and enrollment for five-year-old kindergarten (5K) on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 8 a.m.
Information about Lexington One’s 4K and 5K programs is available on the district website.
Applications for Lexington One’s Dual Language Immersion Program will open on Monday, February 23, 2026, at 4 p.m. The immersion program is application-based and open to students entering kindergarten for the 2026–27 school year.
Four-Year-Old Kindergarten (4K)
Students who are four years old on or before September 1, 2026, may be eligible for Lexington One’s 4K program. The district offers 4K programs at all elementary schools.
To be eligible, students must:
- Be four years old on or before September 1, 2026
- Reside within the Lexington One attendance area
- Meet at-risk eligibility criteria
“At-risk” is defined as an annual family income at or below 185 percent of the federal poverty guidelines, as established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, or eligibility for Medicaid.
Children may also qualify if they have a documented developmental delay or potential developmental delay based on screening results, are placed in foster care, or are experiencing homelessness. Documentation verifying eligibility must be maintained on file.
Due to limited capacity, the district is unable to serve all applicants. When necessary, a waiting list is created and enrollment priority is given based on “most at-risk” factors.
Five-Year-Old Kindergarten (5K)
Lexington One offers a supportive learning environment that promotes academic success for kindergarten students.
Families should enroll their child in 5K if:
- The student is zoned for a Lexington One elementary school, and
- The student is five years old on or before September 1, 2026
Families may use the district’s School Zone Locator to determine their zoned elementary school.
Dual Language Immersion Program
Lexington One’s Dual Language Immersion Program provides students with the opportunity to become bilingual, biliterate, and culturally competent through daily instruction in a target language. The program is application-based and open to students entering kindergarten for the 2026–27 school year. Applications open February 23, 2026.
Families of rising kindergarteners are invited to attend an Immersion Information Night on January 15, 2026, at 6 p.m. at the Lexington One Performing Arts Center at Lexington High School.
