Lexington Police Accepting Applications for Citizen’s Police Academy

Lexington, S.C. — The Lexington Police Department is now accepting applications for its 2026 Citizen’s Police Academy, according to Chief Terrence Green.

The academy will begin Tuesday, March 10, and meet Tuesday evenings for nine weeks, with a break during spring break. Classes will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lexington Police Department’s training facility, with some sessions conducted at off-site locations.

The program is designed to give participants a better understanding of the day-to-day operations of the Lexington Police Department, provide insight into its strategic goals, and strengthen partnerships between the department and the community.

Instruction will be provided by Lexington Police Department personnel and will include presentations on the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, Office of Professional Standards, Special Operations Division, and other specialized units.

Graduation will take place Tuesday, May 12, at the Town of Lexington Municipal Complex.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, reside in or own a business within the Town of Lexington, and pass a background check conducted by the department. Enrollment is limited to 25 participants. Applications are available on the Lexington Police Department website.

Graduation from the Citizen’s Police Academy is a prerequisite for consideration for the department’s Volunteering in Policing Services (V.I.P.S.) program. Additional information about V.I.P.S. is also available on the department’s website.
