An accident on the 1100 block of Shore Road, located in the Gilbert area of Lexington County, resulting in the loss of a community member. Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the victim as Melvin Lin Chavis, a 79-year-old resident of Gilbert.
The single-vehicle collision occurred around 1:50 pm when Chavis, traveling northbound on Shore Road, veered off the left side of the roadway, colliding with a tree. Despite immediate medical attention and transportation to a local hospital, Chavis, who was not wearing a seatbelt, succumbed to the injuries sustained in the collision. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol, in collaboration with the Lexington County Coroner’s Office, is diligently investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. The aim is to uncover the factors that contributed to the accident and provide insight into the sequence of events.
