There will be a new but familiar face as Lexington County Blowfish head coach next summer.
The club announced on Sept. 25 the promotion of Michael Menhart to the position. He spent the past season as an assistant coach.
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead the Blowfish for the upcoming season,” Menhart said. “It’s even more special to do so with it being the team’s 20th anniversary. I have to extend a big ‘thank you’ to the owners, Bill and Vicki Shanahan, for trusting me with this role. I’m excited to work with an outstanding group of talented players from colleges and universities across the country.”
Menhart succeeds K.C. Brown who plans to focus on his full-time position as an assistant coach at Georgia College and State University. In two seasons, Brown led the Blowfish to two straight West Division titles and Coastal Plain League championship appearances.
Lexington County won the title last year and lost to the Wilmington Sharks this past season.
“What Blowfish Nation is getting in Michael is a young coach who is wise beyond his years,” Brown stated. “His baseball acumen and savvy is as high as anyone I’ve seen for someone his age, and the game never speeds up on him.”
Menhart recently was hired as an assistant coach at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia.
The Blowfish will open the 2025 season May 29 at the Florence Flamingos. The first home game of the 2025 season is set the next night against the Macon Bacon.
