In a thrilling display of angling prowess, the Midlands Striper Club took to Lake Murray for their monthly tournament on December 16, 2023, launching from Acapulco. The competition saw twenty-nine striped bass brought to the scales, collectively weighing an impressive 219.42 pounds, boasting an average weight of 7.57 pounds. Fourteen teams showcased their skills by presenting a full two-fish creel for judging.
Top Honors for Team Reel Guys: Securing the top spot with a commanding total weight of 19.39 pounds was Team Reel Guys, captained by Joby Wetzel, and accompanied by Marshall West. Their exceptional performance earned them not only the first-place finish but also the prestigious Team Wildman Big Fish award, sponsored by The Nichols Store, for a remarkable 10.02-pound Striper.
Impressive Runner-Ups: Team Southern Reel, led by Captain Mike Harley, alongside Steve Meyer and Noah Blankenship, claimed second place with a total weight of 15.99 pounds. Meanwhile, Team Fish On, guided by Captain Jackie West and Ricky Lambert, secured third place with a total weight of 13.57 pounds.
Individual Achievements:
- Lady Angler Award: Amelia Keller from Team Knot Right.
- Youth Angler Award: Colton Frady from Team Catchall.
Special Recognitions:
- Middle of the Pack: Team Hardcore, weighing in with an impressive 15.03 pounds.
- Smallest Creel: Team Glitter Rocket, showcasing their finesse with a total weight of 7.53 pounds.
Life Release Award and Team of the Year: The coveted Synergy eTherapy Life Release Award was presented to Team Reel Guys, who not only clinched victory in the tournament but also secured the prestigious title of Team of the Year.
