Veteran educator Stephanie Huckabee has been named the new assistant principal of instruction at Chapin Middle School.
Huckabee currently teaches AP Language and composition as well as public speaking and language arts at Chapin High School, where she’s served since 2012. She earned her master’s degree in educational administration this month from the University of South Carolina and also has a master’s degree in teaching English and a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from USC.
“I am incredibly excited to join the Chapin Middle School family and I look forward to supporting our students, teachers, and community in this new role,” Huckabee said. “Strong teaching is at the heart of student achievement, and it is an honor to serve in a school that already demonstrates an award-winning commitment to delivering quality instruction to students.”
Prior to serving at Chapin High School, Huckabee taught English, mass media and humanities at Dutch Fork High School between 1997 and 1999; and after spending a decade in the corporate world, she returned to Dutch Fork High School in 2011. She started her career in education in School District Five as a student teacher at Irmo High School in January 1997.
Huckabee has served in several leadership positions, including the roles of faculty advisor for Chapin High School’s student directed sports broadcasting program, data team leader for English and AP Language, and Textbook Adoption Committee member. She holds certifications in AP Language and composition and gifted talented. Chapin Middle School Principal Anna Miller said, “We are so excited to have Ms. Huckabee join our team at Chapin Middle. She has a heart for students and teachers alike and demonstrates servant leadership at its finest. These attributes along with her intelligence and experience make her the perfect addition to our school.”
