Operation: Cool Down Helps Residents Beat the Heat

Lexington, SC – With temperatures persistently hovering above 90 degrees, the Town of Lexington Police Department is stepping up to help residents stay cool through their Operation: Cool Down program. This initiative offers free box-style fans to those who need relief from the summer heat.

Community Support

Operation: Cool Down is a community-focused program supported by various local businesses, churches, civic groups, and individual donors who contribute new box fans. While the primary aim is to assist residents of the Town of Lexington, the program extends help to those in the greater Midlands area when possible. Residents outside the town are encouraged to first check with their local police or sheriff’s department to see if similar assistance is available.

How to Donate

Donations of box fans to the Operation: Cool Down program can be made through the Lexington Police Department Foundation. Donors can use in-kind donation forms that include a tax identification number, allowing for tax deductions. This program benefits more than 250 individuals or families each year, and continuous donations are essential for its success.

How to Get Help

If you are in need of a box fan, you can visit the Lexington Police Department at 111 Maiden Lane in Lexington during business hours, which are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. For Town of Lexington residents who have transportation issues, a Community Action Team (C.A.T.) officer may be able to deliver a fan to their home.

Required Forms

To receive a box fan, an acceptance and release of liability form must be completed. This is a simple formality to ensure the safe distribution of fans to those in need.
