Students at River Springs Elementary School in Irmo celebrated Veterans in a unique way this year.
The school tradition of hosting a special lunch to honor the service of family members changed because of COVID restrictions. This year the luncheon was replaced with a letter writing campaign. Students were asked to submit the names and addresses of relatives who served in the military. Each veteran received a personalized letter or artwork from a River Springs Elementary student.
“Honoring our veterans on Veterans Day has been an annual tradition at our school for many years,” said Barbara Savage, campaign organizer. “It’s important for our students to recognize the exceptional role and unique sacrifices our veterans make in the best interest of our nation.”
