Saxe Gotha Presbyterian announces Christmas schedule

Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church (SGPC) offers many ways to worship God and celebrate the Christmas season.

One is Amahl and the Night Visitors, which is a full-scale musical, complete with drama cast in full costume, string quartet and choir. This musical tells the story of the Three Kings who visit a poor, crippled boy and his widowed mother. The stage director has worked internationally, and members of the USC voice faculty will be involved in the Christmas performance. Tickets for the Musical are $5, and it will be presented in the SGPC Light House on December 14 and 15 at 7:30 pm.

Starting on the first Sunday of the Advent Season, Dr. James D. “Jim” Glatz and the other pastors will focus sermons on “Having Faith in the Midst of Brokenness and Evil.” On Sundays, SGPC typically holds one traditional service at 8:30 am in the sanctuary, one contemporary (Alternative Worship Experience) service at 10:45 am in the Light House and one traditional service in the sanctuary at 11 am. The exceptions to this schedule will be December 9, as this will be a one service Sunday due to the Lessons and Carols service at 11 am that day, and December 23, as this will be a one service Sunday for the Christmas Service Project at 10 am in the Sanctuary.

On Christmas Eve, the church will hold three candlelight services. The 4 pm event is a Children’s service that will feature the SNL Children’s choirs, along with a Christmas message for children and adults. the 5:30 pm service will be located in the Light House auditorium and will be in the style of the AWE/contemporary service. The 7 pm event will be a traditional family service in the sanctuary. The church will celebrate communion at all of the Christmas Eve services.

The church is at 5503 Sunset Boulevard, Lexington. For more information call 803-359-7770. For a complete and brief overview of all the remaining events that Saxe Gotha Presbyterian has planned for Christmas, see the following schedule.
