Chief Terrence Green would like the community to know that officers of the Lexington Police Department will be working on an enforcement campaign within the Lexington County School District One school zones in the Town of Lexington over the next three weeks.
Patrol Division and Traffic Safety Unit officers will be in school zones each morning and afternoon with a focus on speeding, crosswalks, stop signs and stop lights, and violations that are contributing factors to collisions that happen in the Town of Lexington.
All Lexington County School District One school zones are signed and typically have flashing yellow caution lights on during morning drop-off and afternoon pickup to remind drivers when they are entering an active school zone requiring a reduction in vehicle speed.
This enforcement campaign will focus on the following school zones:
Lexington Elementary School
Meadow Glen Elementary School
New Providence Elementary School
Lexington Middle School
Meadow Glen Middle School
River Bluff High School
Rosenwald Community Learning Center
“Each morning and afternoon, our officers direct traffic in and out of several schools and have too often witnessed dangerous driving which puts them, children, and drivers in jeopardy of being struck by a car”, Chief Terrence Green said. ‘We need everyone to take responsibility for themselves by driving alert at all times. Getting your child dropped off at school or getting to the office isn’t more important than a life that could be taken by impatience or distracted driving.”
This weekday enforcement campaign began on Monday, September 20, 2021, and will continue through Friday, October 8, 2021.
