Sober or Slammer! Labor Day Campaign Begins

Chief Terrence Green would like to notify the Town of Lexington community that the Lexington Police Department, along with law enforcement agencies statewide, will be participating in the Sober or Slammer! Labor Day campaign which begins Friday, August 16, 2019.  Officers will be conducting continued D.U.I. enforcement activities through the Labor Day holiday weekend.

For the next two weeks, Traffic Division and Patrol Division officers will be focused on D.U.I. enforcement, along with participating in several public safety checkpoints, and those who plan to drink alcohol are asked to have a plan to get home safe anytime alcohol has been consumed.

Chief Terrence Green stated, “There are so many options that everyone has after having a few drinks with a designated driver, taxi, rideshare service, or even a tow truck. Always make the smart decision to have a sober driver to get you home safe. The risk is just too great to get behind the wheel intoxicated.”

The Sober or Slammer! campaign falls under the South Carolina Department of Public Safety Target Zero initiative to end all highway fatalities and is part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over crackdown coordinated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The national effort includes state and local law enforcement agencies across the country. The campaign combines high-visibility enforcement with heightened public awareness through advertising and publicity.
