I have to say: this year never played out how I imagined. 2020 has been one for the books, not really in the best way. But, we’ve come together as a community to support one another during a very difficult time — and that’s what really matters.
From experiencing COVID-19 symptoms in our neighborhoods, to losing loved ones, having to shut down or halt business operations to losing employment. Many residents suffered this year. We, as a community, have faced unthinkable situations. We have had to make tough decisions for the good of our families and friends.
Just when we thought things may be changing for the better as we neared the summer, our nation experienced more turmoil. Civil unrest impacted many neighborhoods. Lives were lost. Businesses and communities were destroyed. Our country’s dynamic completely changed.
As we head into the 2020 holiday season, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on this past year with thoughts of gratefulness. I’m grateful for the employees of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department who have made many sacrifices this year in order to serve and protect the citizens and visitors of our great county. I’m thankful for the wonderful communities and neighborhoods in which we serve and live. Your generosity has been uplifting, we are grateful to work in such a supportive community.
Holiday celebrations may look different from year’s past. But, I hope you are able to take a moment to appreciate the growth each and every one of us has made this year; the challenges we have overcome, and the fellow citizens who fill up our daily lives.
