West Columbia Post 79 and Lexington Post 7 are involved in a 3-team race for first place in the American Legion League 3 standings.
West Columbia (4-3, 4-2) held a ½ game lead over Richland Post 215 (3-4, 3-2) following Monday’s 2-0 loss to Orangeburg Post 4 at home. Lexington (3-3, 3-3) also lost Monday by a 2-1 score to Richland to fall a full game back for first place.
West Columbia and Lexington opened a home-at-home series against each other Wednesday at Brookland-Cayce High School. The two teams will then meet the following night at Lexington High School.
Post 79 will have four remaining League games, two each against Richland and Orangeburg. Post 7 also has two games left with Orangeburg next week and Richland to end the season.
Chapin/Newberry Post 193/24.
Victories in six of the past seven games has Chapin/Newberry within a half game of first place in League 6 behind Golden Strip 271.
On June 13, Post 193/24 rallied twice for a 6-5 victory in extra innings over Easley Post 52 at Newberry College. After falling behind 3-0 in the Top 1st, Chapin/Newberry scored four runs in the Bottom 4th on an RBI single by Blair Moore, a 2-run triple by Jack Coletti and RBI sacrifice fly by Jake Peterson.
Easley tied the game at 4-4 in the Top 7th and took a 5-4 lead in the Top 10th.
Chapin/Newberry loaded the bases and tied the game when Coletti scored on an error.
Maddox Floyd followed with a walkoff RBI single for the victory.
Monday night saw Peterson allow one hit in the 3-1 victory over Greenwood Post 20. Noah Mills went 3-4 and Blair Moore and Peterson both went 2-4 with an RBI.
Chapin/Newberry will face Golden Strip for three straight games starting Monday.
