Special needs participants from all over the Midlands, and their families, will spend a day at Lake Murray enjoying waterskiing on an adaptable ski, tubing, and kayaking. The event will be held June 21. Special needs children over the age of six and adults are welcome. Families and siblings are also welcome.
The signature event of Limitless Sports takes a host of volunteers to ensure the success and safety of all participants. All of them agree that no reward compares to a thumbs-up and big smile after a great ride on the lake from a child who has just begun to see their limitless potential.
Limitless Sports was founded in 1998 to give children with special needs the opportunity to participate in sports that otherwise would be denied to them.
“The key is adaptation” said Dr. Fred C. Piehl of Midlands Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery, who has developed programs with modified sports equipment that allows these children to participate in activities such as wheelchair basketball league, sailing lessons, and a the organization’s current focus, their annual ski clinic.
Limitless Sports’ 18th Annual Ski Event will be held from 9 am until after lunch June 21 at the Woodmen of the World located at 2000 Johnson Marina Road; Chapin. Lunch will be provided. No unsupervised swimming for family members will be permitted.
