Another Gamecock Win – Times 2

The South Carolina Gamecocks Baseball team had a double win on Saturday, April 30th. They enjoyed a stunning victory against Alabama, 11-5 and they tied a season-high with 14 hits to earn the series sweep.

Their second win was having the Heart of Columbia Chorus sing the National Anthem in four-part a cappella harmony. This vocal arrangement is sung without musical accompaniment, but that didn’t stop fans at the Stadium from joining in enthusiastically. The chorus enjoyed the extra voices and the Gamecocks win!

The event was also a win for the women in the chorus; getting back to community performances after the pandemic closures is important to this show chorus, a chapter of Sweet Adelines International. While Heart of Columbia demonstrated their passion for performance in their barbershop style of music, they also enjoy serving their community. They sing at fundraising events such as the Festival of Trees Gala in support of Prisma Health’s Children’s Hospital and Wreaths Across America at the Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. They have sung at other community events such as the Fireflies and Blowfish baseball games, and the State Fair. Heart of Columbia enjoys sharing its variety of a cappella music ranging from Patriotic to Disney tunes to selections from every decade between the 1940s to today.

As a local organization that meets on Thursdays in Lexington, they invite women who enjoy singing to join them. They are an inclusive, diverse group from all walks of life with ages spanning several decades. The goal of the Heart of Columbia Chorus is to sing well, perform often, and have fun.
