On November 30, 2021, the Newberry Chamber of Commerce held a Ribbon Cutting for AugerMates. AugerMates was founded by Gary and Sarah Kanan. They patented their augers when they realized a need for Sand Augers while boating near sandbars on Lake Murray. The sand augers keep boats from drifting off no matter the tide or current.
