Toys will be presented to children by RCSD deputies

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD) was the recipient of more than 30 stuffed animals, a gift from RCSD friend and supporter Jennifer Necker of Columbia. The animals will be distributed to deputies who will keep them on hand (usually in the trunks of their patrol cars) to give to children during moments when kids might need comforting.
“This generous gift is not the first time a caring citizen like Jennifer has reached out to us for the sake of others,” said Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott. “These stuffed animals will definitely be put to good use and will likely calm what might otherwise be a traumatized child in any number of incidents our deputies encounter on a near-daily basis.”
Necker, a regional production group engineer with the S.C. Department of Transportation, was accompanied by her parents Joseph and Susie Necker when she made the deliveries and spent time with Sheriff Lott, Friday, July 21. Her father, Joe, a retired engineer, also delivered a few much-needed items: Slightly used but serviceable footballs and soccer balls which Lott says will be cleaned up and given to a local recreational facility. Necker’s mother, Susie, presented homemade zucchini bread to Lott and a few RCSD deputies.
