With this year’s theme “oBEdient”, Chapin United Methodist Church (CUMC) located at 415 Lexington Avenue will be hosting its annual Global Impact Celebration (GIC) the weekend of September 27 – 29th. All are welcome to join us to recognize God’s work through our church community.
For nine years CUMC has organized this annual event for two purposes. First is to welcome back many of our partner missionaries from around the world and bless them. Second is to raise awareness of the existence of global and local missions in need of our support. Alice Lloyd, the chair of this year’s church wide event along with 40+ members serving in various capacities have been working behind the scenes for months preparing for this event, and it looks like an event you and your family would not want to miss.
CUMC is a bible-based church that makes every effort to follow God’s teachings. The Lord said, “Go into the world and preach the good news to all creation.”(Mark 16:15) CUMC has supported more than a dozen global missionaries working in Kenya, Mexico, Costa Rica, Haiti, and Guatemala, just to name a few of the countries and supports many local ministries here in Chapin, Columbia, Newberry and as far away nationally as Kentucky. In fact Walley Turner, Head of Chapin United Methodist’s Global Outreach Team for Missions states, “According to my calculations in 2018, CUMC missions provided funds to more than 35 individuals and groups.” “We also have more than 800 individuals who have volunteered on one or more mission trips both locally and globally.”
Chapin UMC is expecting a panel of missionaries to arrive in Chapin by September 27th. They will be welcomed and staying in folks’ homes during their time with us.
The Kick-off is Friday the 27th with a pizza social from 6:00 to 7:00 followed by introductions to missionaries, a video, communion and prayer. After the service, you will be free to walk around the Fellowship Hall to meet and greet the missionaries.
On Saturday morning members of the congregation will be engaged in a Community Day of Service helping local residents with minor repair projects. From 11:00 to 1:00, a Ladies Luncheon will be held in the Fellowship Hall with entertainment provided by members of our mens’ choir. At 12:30, a Men’s Lunch will also be held with speakers from ministries CUMC supports. At 5:30, we will host a Pot Luck dinner to get to know the missionaries even better. Sign up sheets are available on line at chapinumc.com if you’d like to bring food to share. Childcare will be provided for children four and under.
During church services at 9:00 and 11:15 AM on Sunday morning, Pastor Jody Flowers will deliver an inspiring and convicting message to the people of the Chapin area and Chapin United Methodist Church. Afterwards, the visiting missionaries will be talking to Sunday School classes. Please feel free to join us and participate.
Leading up to this eventful weekend, we will have a Spirit Week – opportunities to help prepare our hearts for an inspiration week full of ways we can all share God’s love with others.
Meaningful Monday – Perform a random act of kindness to a stranger.
Drive thru Tuesday – Pay for someone’s meal in a drive thru.
Wireless Wednesday – Can we possibly fast from all technology? (social media and texting?)
Throwback Thursday – Call or write to someone that you have not talked to or seen in a while.
Fellowship Friday – Join us at a church-wide Pizza Party to fellowship with friends, church members, and our mission partners.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 says “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. “
Please be in prayer that God has his hands on this entire event and that people are moved to support those in mission to others.
