Columbia Welcomes EPC, Inc.

Columbia, SC – A significant addition to the local business community was celebrated on June 6 as EPC, Inc. officially opened its new facility at 1326 Bush River Road. The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured a lineup of prominent city officials, including Mayor Daniel J. Rickenmann, District I Councilwoman Tina N. Herbert, and members of the Columbia Economic Development staff, who gathered with EPC, Inc. employees to welcome the company to the city.

EPC, Inc., a company that specializes in the sustainable and secure disposal of obsolete information technology (IT) infrastructure, has established a presence in Columbia that is poised to make a substantial impact. The company assists numerous organizations nationwide in repurposing their old IT equipment and ensuring responsible disposal that meets stringent data security requirements.

Mayor Rickenmann expressed enthusiasm for the new business, emphasizing its alignment with Columbia’s sustainability initiatives. “EPC, Inc. is a valuable asset to our community and fills a critical need,” Rickenmann remarked. “It also fits into our sustainability plan. We are the only city in South Carolina that is Gold LEED certified, and these types of industries help us achieve our next goal of Platinum certification.”

The new facility, which previously housed a Walmart, has undergone a $9.5 million transformation. The 203,000-square-foot space will serve as EPC, Inc.’s East Coast hub, creating 133 new jobs and boosting local economic activity. The repurposing of the former retail space exemplifies how large commercial properties can be adapted to meet new business needs, providing a model for future development in Columbia.

District I Councilwoman Tina N. Herbert highlighted the broader implications of EPC, Inc.’s investment. “This project is a perfect example of how large, unused retail spaces can be revitalized and repurposed,” Herbert noted. “I’m excited about the new opportunities this will create for our city.”

EPC, Inc.’s commitment to environmentally responsible practices aligns well with Columbia’s broader efforts toward sustainability. The company’s new facility is expected to contribute significantly to the local economy and set a precedent for similar developments in the future.
