IRMO, S.C. — The Rotary Club of Lake Murray-Irmo welcomed Scott Hagler, director of Field Services for the Scouting America Indian Waters Council, for a presentation on Scouting’s current programs, activities and opportunities for young people.
Hagler brings extensive experience to his role. An Eagle Scout and Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow, he has been involved in Scouting for 50 years and has served as a professional Scouter for 28 years. His experience also includes 44 years working with summer camps and outdoor programming.
As director of Field Services, Hagler coordinates membership, camping and training for Scouting America’s Indian Waters Council, which serves 19 counties in South Carolina. He also serves the Etowah District, which includes the Irmo and Chapin areas.
Hagler highlighted four Scouting programs available to young people:
Cub Scouting is for youth in kindergarten through fifth grade. The program provides hands-on activities that help children develop confidence, learn new skills and build a foundation for leadership and personal growth.
Scouts BSA is available to youth ages 11-17 and offers the traditional Scouting experience for both boys and girls. Service, community engagement and leadership development become increasingly important as Scouts take responsibility for planning activities and work toward Scouting’s highest rank, Eagle Scout.
Venturing is a co-ed program for youth ages 14-20. The youth-led program allows participants to explore their interests and develop new skills through activities such as rappelling, kayaking, robotics, shooting sports, community service and other adventures.
Exploring is a co-ed program for youth through age 20 that provides career-focused activities and one-on-one mentoring. The program allows young people to explore potential careers, develop leadership skills and learn more about opportunities in their communities.
The Rotary Club of Lake Murray-Irmo regularly brings community leaders, educators and subject-matter experts to its meetings to inform members about issues, organizations and opportunities affecting the local community.
