Former WIS-TV Personality Joe Pinner Passes Away

Beloved former WIS-TV personality Joe Pinner has passed away, as confirmed by his family on Sunday afternoon.

Pinner began his career in radio before transitioning to television broadcasting, joining WIS in 1963, just a decade after the station’s inception. Over the course of his 55-year career at WIS, Pinner took on multiple roles, including co-host, anchor, and weatherman, but he was perhaps best known for his long-running role as ‘Mr. Knozit,’ the beloved children’s show host.

Throughout his career, Pinner was honored with numerous awards for his contributions to broadcasting. He retired from WIS in 2018, leaving behind a legacy that spanned over five decades.

His passing marks the end of an era for many who grew up watching him on television, and he will be fondly remembered by the South Carolina community.

Congressman Joe Wilson issued this statement on the passing of Joe Pinner:

“The passing of Joe Pinner, the beloved ‘Mr. Knozit,’ will be recognized as an institution who inspired so many young people to achieve the highest of their abilities. Roxanne and I will always cherish dear friends Peggy and Joe so devoted to the Midlands community betterment.”

The Pinner family says there will be a memorial service held sometime in November.
