Caleb Proveaux of Lexington placed third in the Palmetto Amateur by shooting a four round total of 278. His USC Gamecock teammate Jamie Wilson won the event two shots ahead. Proveaux was in contention from the opening round when he shot 68. He followed it with 66 and closed with an even par 70. His game is solid heading into this weeks SCGA State Amateur Championship at Thornblade Club in Greenville. Proveaux joins other local exempt players including Michael Sims, Zach McLain, and Mark Swygert.

One of the most encouraging facts about golf is how long one can continue to grow and improve. 61 year old Bernhard Langer won the British Senior Open this past week in difficult weather conditions. Typically weather exposes all physical and mental weakness but the two time Masters Champion and most dominant player in Senior PGA Tour history seemed to get stronger as winds with rain got worse. Golf is quite unique and a game that experience matters much.
