Gilbert ends Airport’s region-winning streak

The winning streak in region play ended Tuesday for Airport baseball.

Gilbert handed the Eagles a 3-0 home loss. It ended a streak of 22 consecutive wins dating back to March 28, 2022 in a loss to North Augusta.

Dalton Taylor held Airport to four hits and struck out six for the Indians. Peyton Cromer went 2-4 with 2 RBI, Sam Woodyard went 2-3 with an Rbi and Cooper James drove in a run.

The two teams meet again Thursday in Gilbert.

In other Region 4-4A action, Brookland-Cayce edged Gray Collegiate 3-2 on Tuesday.

Thomas Donadio had a 2-run double to give the Bearcats a 2-1 lead in the second inning. Rylan Bullis added an RBI double in the third inning and starter Brrogan Sox and reliever Austin Rhodus allowed just one run and two hits over the final five innings.

M.J. Hornsby went 2-2 with an RBI and Zeb Taylor had an RBI sacrifice fly for the Warr Eagles.

Gray Collegiate Academy softball

Last year’s Class 2A champion has continued its domination in Class 4A.

The Lady War Eagles improved to 16-1 overall following a 9-4 win over A.C. Flora Tuesday. They trailed 4-3 after five inning before scoring six unanswered runs.

Aspen Boulware belted two home runs and drove in three, Kayla Anderson went 3-5 with two RBI and a home run and Maliah Wright had a solo home run.

Peyton Hendrix picked up the win in relief. She struck out six and allowed no hits in 2 1/3 innings in relief of Maddox Long, who fanned seven.

Gray Collegiate is 8-0 in Region 4-4A and return to action Thursday at home against Brookland-Cayce.
