Lexington finds success on the diamond

The winning streak in region play continues for Lexington softball.

The Lady Wildcats opened last week with victories over Chapin and archrival River Bluff. In the two games, senior Livi Warren went 5-7 with two home runs, two doubles and five RBI.

Pitcher Haley Manz struck out 11 batters in 10 innings in the two victories.

In baseball, Lexington head coach Brian Hucks picked up his 500th career win after defeating archrival River Bluff 2-1.

Jackson Burton struck out six batters and allowed just two hits for Lexington. Both runs were scored in the third inning on an RBI single by Ryder Kellis and an RBI walk by Jackson Cionek.

The Wildcats evened their region mark at 2-2 after losing two of three games to Chapin. In Game One, the Eagles scored two runs in the top of the sixth to hand them a 5-4 loss on March 18.

Lexington rebounded with a 4-0 win over the Eagles. University of South Carolina commit Brandon Cromer struck out seven and allowed just one hit and went 2-4 at the plate.

Toby Sobieralski went 3-3 with an RBI and Will Burgess and Cionek each went 2-3.

The rubber match was won by Chapin 5-1 as Caden Reeves belted a two-run home run and Ty Harper struck out four in five scoreless innings.
