Lexington museum to host Halloween events

Haunted History tours set for Oct. 22-23; walking tour planned for Nov. 13

LEXINGTON — The Lexington County Museum will host two events this fall exploring the area’s history through ghost stories, local mysteries and tales of murder.

The 19th annual Haunted History Halloween program will be held Oct. 22-23, with tours beginning at 7, 8 and 9 p.m. Each tour lasts about 45 minutes.

Guided by costumed storytellers, visitors will explore the museum grounds and hear spooky tales, including accounts of unusual events in Lexington County’s antebellum history. The program also examines 19th-century medical remedies and the belief in the healing powers of a practice called “using.”

Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12. Museum members are admitted free with a membership card. The event is family-friendly.

Reservations are required. To reserve a spot, call 803-359-8369 or email [email protected].

The museum will also offer its Murders and Mysteries Walking Tour of Main Street on Nov. 13. The free tour begins at 8 p.m. at the Icehouse Amphitheater. No tickets or reservations are required.

Founded in 1970, the Lexington County Museum is located at 231 Fox St. in downtown Lexington. The seven-acre site includes 30 historic structures and interprets everyday life in the county from 1770 through the beginning of the Civil War.
