The Lexington and River Bluff golf teams are headed to the state tournament final.
Both teams finished first and third, respectively, at the Class 5A Division I Lower State tournament The Lady Wildcats won by 10 strokes over Carolina Forest followed by the Lady Gators with a score of 325.
Lexington’s Taryn Smoak was the top medalist. Teammates Lyles Heritage and Claire Kim tied for fourth place and River Bluff’s Minghe Huang finishing sixth.
The state tournament takes place Monday and Tuesday at Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg. Lexington is seeking its first state title since 2000 and add to its state-record 15th overall.
River Bluff is seeking to improve on last year’s runner-up finish.
VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFFS
The S.C. High School League playoffs opened Wednesday with several matches:
Sumter at Lexington
Loris at Newberry
Liberty at Mid-Carolina
Eau Claire at Batesburg-Leesville
Region 4-5A champion River Bluff is a second seed in the Lower State. It will face the West Ashley/Stratford winner on Monday.
TENNIS PLAYOFFS
Region 4-5A champion River Bluff and Lexington both have a first-round bye in the Class 5A Division I playoffs.
The Lady Wildcats will face the Carolina Forest/Stratford winner and the Lady Gators will meet the Sumter/Ashley Ridge winner on Tuesday.
In Class 3A, Newberry will face the Loris/Battery Creek winner on Tuesday.
