Midlands Striper Club holds first Lake Murray tournament of 2025

With heavy hearts, the Midlands Striper Club held its monthly Lake Murray tournament out of Acapulco on Jan. 18.  ]

Despite rain and cold temperatures all day and the passing of long time club member, friend, and mentor, Marshal West, 16 teams participated in the event. They reeled in 20 striped bass to the scales weighing a total of 158.98 pounds with a 7.95-pound average and nine teams were able to bring a full two fish creel. 

Finishing in first place with a total weight of 20.20 pounds was Team Reel Guys captained by Joby Wetzel, along with Bruce Brown.

Team Reel Guys also won the Team Wildman Big Fish Award sponsored by the Nichols Store with a 10.49-pound striper. In addition, they were awarded the Sea-n-Stripes Guide Service Live Release Award and the TWT.

Finishing in second place with a total weight of 19.93 pounds was Team Rod Bending captained by Chris Faircloth, along with Tyrus Snelgrove. 

 Finishing in third place with a total weight of 19.77 pounds was Team Sea-n-Stripes captained by Chip Brag, along with Ryan Eubanks and Kendal Eubanks.

Lady Angler Award went to Liz Sineath from Team Stone Age.

 

 

Youth Angler Award went to Kendal Eubanks from Team Sea-n-Stripes.

 Middle of the Road in seventh place went to Team Been Lure’d In with 13.91 pounds.

Smallest creel went to Team Only Fins with a total weight of 5.15 pounds.

 Midlands Striper Club is a family oriented fishing organization dedicated to preserving our fisheries for generations to come.  MSC’s next monthly meeting is the Annual State of the Lake scheduled for Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Flight Deck in Lexington.
