Midlands Striper Club Hosts Successful May Tournament on Lake Murray

The Midlands Striper Club held its monthly tournament on May 17 at Lake Murray, launching from Dreher Island, S.C. The event drew 16 competitive teams, bringing in 27 striped bass to the scales for a total weight of 205.34 pounds, averaging 6.98 pounds per fish.

Thirteen teams successfully weighed in a full two-fish creel. Taking first place was Team Catchall, pictured above, captained by Lee Thomas and joined by Carl Thompson, with a winning total weight of 16.94 pounds. They also claimed the Team Wildman Big Fish Award, sponsored by The Nichols Store, with an impressive 10.31-pound striper.

Second place honors went to Team Been Lure’d In, captained by John Temple with Ty Taylor, weighing in at 16.46 pounds. Third place was secured by Team Main Street Mafia, captained by Aaron Hatfield and Tim Schumpert, with a total of 16.34 pounds.

Special awards included:

Lady Angler Award: Liz Sineath from Team Stone Age

Youth Angler Award: Noah Baumgardner from Team River Rats

Smallest Creel: Team Well Hung with 6.44 pounds

And Middle of the Pack: Team River Rats with 14.55 pounds

The Midlands Striper Club continues to promote family-oriented fishing and is committed to conservation and preservation of local fisheries. The next club meeting will take place on June 10 at 7 p.m. at The Flight Deck in Lexington, S.C. The next tournament is scheduled for June 21 at Clark’s Hill Lake.
