Win or lose, Tuesday possibly marked an end of an era at Lexington High School stadium.

The third-round matchup against archrival River Bluff set up a couple of scenarios for Wildcats’ head coach Chris Fryland. A third win this season over the Lady Gators would send Lexington to the Class 5A Division I Lower State final on Friday.

Unless James Island defeated top seed Wando, the Lady Wildcats would have to travel to Charleston. This factor, plus the other scenario of a loss to the Lady Gators, would mean the final home game for the winningest head coach in South Carolina High School League history.

The Newberry girls were in Charleston Tuesday for a third-round matchup with top seed Oceanside Collegiate Academy.

On the boys’ side, Lexington also looked to advance to the Lower State final. On Wednesday, it traveled to West Ashley for the quarterfinal matchup with the Wildcats getting to play the next round at home unless Wando loses to Stratford.

Both Newberry and Swansea boys’ soccer were a victory away on Tuesday from facing each other in the Class 3A Lower State final. The Lady Bulldogs traveled to defending Class 4A champion Oceanside Collegiate Academy, while the Lady Tigers played host to Waccamaw.
