All three of the District Five varsity baseball teams are competing in tournaments this week, with the few remaining region games just ahead.
Dutch Fork and Chapin are playing in the South Carolina Diamond Invitational hosted by Blythewood High School. The event runs Tuesday through Saturday with the tournament championship set for 6 pm on the last day.
The Silver Foxes got started Tuesday with a 6-3 loss to the Blythewood Bengals, and they were set to take on Hillcrest today, Thursday, at noon, and then face T. C. Roberson, of North Carolina, at 3 pm Friday.
Chapin started Wednesday against T. C. Roberson and took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning and held on to win the game 7-6. The Eagles were scheduled to take on T. L. Hanna Thursday morning, and then face Hillcrest Friday at 5:30 pm.
Saturday’s games will determine the final placement of teams in the event, culminating in the 6 pm title game.
Irmo wrapped up its run in the Kershaw-Richland Spring Break Invitational on Wednesday after going 2-1 in the first three games.
The Yellow Jackets beat Ridge View 15-5 last Saturday to kick off the tournament and then defeated North Central 9-2 early this week before taking a 7-2 loss to Mid-Carolina on Tuesday.
Irmo was set to take on Camden Wednesday in the final day of the tournament.
Teams will return to the regular schedule next week, after Spring Break, with a mix of a few region and non-region games left on the calendar.
