A Community Art Project
The Arts Sail into Chapin is a community art project collaboration between the Crooked Creek Art League (CCAL) and the Town of Chapin. The concept for the project is emblematic of the town itself, 13 free standing aluminum sailboats artistically painted and embellished by local artists whose proposals were selected as the best among all submissions. Local businesses were invited to serve as Host Sponsors.
The project, a highly visible public art display, centers around the Chapin Labor Day Festival, featuring the 13 artistically crafted sailboats on exhibit throughout the community at host sponsor sites during the months of August and September.
Tied to the 2019 Chapin Labor Day Festival, which draws over 20,000 visitors each year, this project is a wonderful opportunity to show the vital role the arts play in a vibrant community.
CCAL will have a booth with even more information and fun in downtown Chapin during the Labor Day Festival on Sept 2. Members of the public are invited to participate in the project through:
- Completing a community Scavenger Hunt featuring the sailboats with
participants eligible for a prize drawing. - Voting for a People’s Choice winner.
- Buying raffle tickets for a gift basket valued at over $2100
- Purchasing one of the sailboats by bidding in a silent auction.
A philanthropic endowment was used to partially fund the project along with grants from the South Carolina Arts Commission, and the Greater Chapin Community Endowment, an affiliate of the Central Carolina Community Foundation. The project also could not have been undertaken without the outstanding support of the local business community. CCAL welcomes your support in continuing to make a difference for the artists and art in our community. We are actively seeking the help of the local
business community to provide donated prizes to be used for winners of the Scavenger Hunt drawing. We see this project as a prime opportunity to promote the partnership between local business and the arts in our community while providing positive public exposure for Chapin. We invite you to join CCAL members and others from the community in supporting growth of the visual arts in the Lake Murray region.
CCAL is located in Chapin, South Carolina. Its more than 120 members, from Chapin and the surrounding lake communities, include painters of all mediums, photographers, sculptors and mixed media artists. All are welcome. CCAL is chartered as a charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of federal tax law. As a dynamic non-profit organization, CCAL depends on its members, business partners and donors to help it continue to achieve its mission and grow the arts in our area. The league provides on-location art exhibits at local businesses, associate juror training and workshops. It also hosts one of the largest juried art shows in the midlands each year. Founded in 1995, CCAL is celebrating 25 years of helping to nurture awareness of the visual arts in our communities while providing inspiration and recognition for existing and aspiring artists.
