By Thomas Grant Jr.

The Chris Fryland era at Lexington High School ended last Friday.

A decade after leading the Lady Wildcats to their lone state title, the winningest girls’ soccer coach in South Carolina history sought a return trip in his final season at the helm.

Standing in the way was old nemesis Wando, a team that has served as Fryland’s biggest rival during his two decades at Lexington.

After a scoreless first half, the Lady Warriors added two scores in the second half. Lexington was unable to answer and lost 2-0 to finish with a 19-3-2.

Fryland ends his career with the Lady Wildcats with a state record 478 victories, 11 region titles, three Lower State titles and two state runners-up.

Wando will face J.L. Mann in the Class 5A title match at Memorial Stadium.
