The start of the New Year means the countdown begins for Richland County businesses to renew their business licenses.
All County business licenses expired December 31. The deadline to renew without incurring penalties is March 15. Every business needs a business license to operate legally, including home-based businesses.
“Business licenses are an important tool used by the County to promote the health, safety and welfare of the community by ensuring that all County businesses are operating lawfully,” said Pam Davis, Division Manager of the Business Service Center. “To help businesses help the County, the Business Service Center takes great effort to make the business renewal process as understandable and as easy as we can make it.”
The Business Service Center (BSC) recently mailed out renewal applications to nearly 10,000 businesses as a reminder of the renewal period.
Business owners are encouraged to use the BSC’s online resources to quickly and easily renew their licenses. Renewing online allows owners to save $10, gas and time while avoiding long lines and parking. Online renewal ensures accuracy and delivery as well.
The BSC website also offers an online calculator, instructions to guide business owners through the process and a checklist outlining what information is needed before they begin.
Most businesses can pay online with the exception of first-time renewals.
