A century of Lexington athletics is celebrated

The cold temperatures were not enough to stop the celebration of 100 years of Lexington High School athletics this past Saturday. Celebrations were held throughout the rescheduled doubleheader between Lexington and longtime rival Irmo.

State championship teams girls (1976, 1979) and boys  (1986, 2000, 2024) were recognized during game breaks. The Lady Wildcats won the first game 60-37, while the Yellow Jackets rebounded from an 8-0 deficit to win 60-44. Current girls basketball coach Molly Goodrich was also recognized for becoming the program’s winningest coach. Later that evening, a special gathering was held at The Grove.
