The University of South Carolina baseball team is headed to the Sunshine State for the Super Regional.
The Gamecocks will face Southeastern Conference rival Florida in Gainesville in the Best-of-Three Series for a berth in the College World Series.
South Carolina completed an undefeated run June 4 at home in the Regional with a 16-7 victory over Campbell. Chapin High School graduate Matthew Becker started the game and struck out four and allowed five runs in three innings for a no-decision.
Becker is one of three Eagles on the Gamecocks’ roster along with fellow pitchers Chris Veach and Cade Austin. River Bluff pitcher Ricky Williams and Dutch Fork outfielder Evan Stone are also on the roster.
Future Gamecock outfielder Thomas Powell of River Bluff is currently playing for the Lexington County Blowfish of the Coastal Plain League. The college summer league team is off to a 4-2 start led by infielder Blake Martin of Dutch Fork. He leads the team in batting at .538 with six runs scored and four walks.
The Blowfish return home Friday for a home game against the Macon Bacon.
