Even in the off-season, the Lexington County Blowfish remains an active organization.

Having celebrated its 10th year in Lexington, the organization will commemorate its 20th year this upcoming season. The team released its 2025 schedule at Wednesday’s monthly luncheon at the Lexington County Baseball Stadium VIP Stadium room.

The Coastal Plain League runner-up and West Division champions will open its quest to regain the title on May 30 at home against the Macon Bacon. Lexington County will play 34 home games next season, with 20 weekend games.

As part of the 20th anniversary celebration, an alumni game pitting former Columbia and Lexington Blowfish players will take place on July 19.

In other business, Lexington County Blowfish co-owner Bill Shanahan announced the fifth annual Celebrity Boiling Peanut Contest. It will take place at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at the S.C. State Fairgrounds on the opening day.

Reigning 2-time champion and Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon officially announced his “retirement” from the lineup. He, along with previous winner Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott, will serve as a celebrity judge.

The contest will air live on WIS News 10, whose sports personality Rick Henry will participate for the fifth time.

The full lineup of participants will be released prior to the event. WCOS 97.5 FM radio personality Jonathon Rush will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.
