Brookland-Lakeview Empowerment Center (BLEC) will join Farmer’s Markets across the country in celebrating National Farmer’s Market Week from August 6-12, 2023. The BLEC will host a Farmer’s Market every Tuesday beginning August 8 from 4-7 p.m. at the Brookland Baptist Church Northeast Campus. The BLEC will welcome over 15 vendors, including local farmers, live music, artisans, food vendors, and other activities. The event is free and open to the public.
National Farmer’s Market Week is an annual celebration of Farmer’s Markets proclaimed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and coordinated by the Farmer’s Market Coalition, a membership-based nonprofit organization that supports farmer’s markets nationwide through training, technical assistance, and network-building.
This year, the campaign is centered around the essential role of Farmer’s Market operators in local food systems and communities. Farmer’s Markets have influenced how Americans eat, shop, and connect to their food, farmers, and each other for more than fifty years. Farmer’s Markets are more than marketplaces; they are places where neighbors learn, grow, and work together.
