The Celebrate Freedom Foundation (CFF) STEM Education Program visited several schools in Lexington-Richland School District Five to emphasize the importance of STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) in middle schools and high schools.
CFF has been visiting schools for 10 years. The program’s mission is to help build a workforce that can compete globally for jobs of the future, and to ensure America’s technological advantage in a global environment.
“We bring the field trips to the schools in order for the whole school to see our program and learn from it,” said Lori Wicker, Celebrate Freedom’s Executive Vice President of STEM and JROTC programs. “We are inspiring the next generation with our veterans who bring drones, helicopters, hummer vehicles and their knowledge and expertise to each visit. Our program is used to enhance what students are learning in their classrooms.”
STEM subjects provide skills and competencies greatly needed in South Carolina, across the nation and globally.
“Our students have been able to experience first hand STEM careers with the helicopter and the drone station and the hummer vehicle,” said Irmo Middle School Career Specialist Allison Redick. “Students are getting exposure to many STEM careers. It helps students make the connection to what they are learning in classes. It helps their learning come to life and prepare them for the real world.”
Celebrate Freedom Foundation (CFF), a Non-profit, Educational & Historical, 501(c) (3) Corporation, was created to further education efforts as well as “to honor past aviation pioneers and inspire future space and aviation pioneers.” CFF has always focused on education, with a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Mathematics) Education Outreach Program primarily directed to K-12 students. CFF continues to work with STEM education.
