Chapin Middle School students receive awards at MathCounts competition

Chapin Middle School’s MathCounts team won first place in the Midlands Area MathCounts Team Competition and is now heading to the state competition.

The team is made up of Minseo Baek, Vivian Garcia, Leo Ha, Chaeyeon Lee, Claire Ju, Miquel Shim, Luke Simon, and Annie Xu.

“I am so proud of the Chapin Middle School MatchCounts Team,” said Staci Gregg, Chapin Middle Math Department Chair. “Their time and dedication have paid off. Great job, Chapin Middle School Mathaletes!”

Several team members also placed in the individual round, which included 58 participants. They will advance to the State Competition and will compete on March 26.

Individual Competition results include: Miquel Shim (2nd place), Annie Xu (5th place), Luke Simon (6th place) and Leo Ha (9th place).

MathCounts is a nonprofit organization that strives to engage middle school students of all ability and interest levels in fun, challenging math programs to expand their academic and professional opportunities. Middle school students exist at a critical juncture in which their love for mathematics must be nurtured, or their fear of mathematics must be overcome.
