At the March 19 board meeting, the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees proudly announced the appointment of Clark Cooper as the district’s new Chief Operations and Student Services Officer. Cooper, currently serving as the district’s Executive Director of Student Services and Interim Executive Director of Operations, brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his new role.
Cooper’s journey in education began in 2002 as a science teacher and coach at Pelion High School. Over the years, he demonstrated exceptional leadership, rising through the ranks to positions of increased responsibility. His tenure includes serving as assistant administrator, assistant principal, and ultimately, principal in 2012. Notably, while serving as assistant principal, Cooper also served as one of the district’s hearing officers in Student Services.
In 2017, Cooper assumed the role of Director of Student Administration, and in 2022, he was appointed Interim Chief Student Services Officer. Since 2023, he has served in his current capacity as Executive Director of Student Services and Interim Executive Director of Operations.
Beyond his district roles, Cooper has made significant contributions to education statewide. He served as a consultant for the South Carolina Department of Education, fulfilling roles such as STAT Federal Priority School Coach and External Review Team Member. Additionally, he led initiatives like the High Schools That Work TAV and TRV as a team leader.
Cooper’s academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Biology Education from The Citadel, as well as a Master of Arts in Business Education and a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of South Carolina. He holds certifications in superintendent, secondary principal, secondary supervisor, biology, and science.
A distinguished member of the education community, Cooper is actively involved in professional organizations such as the South Carolina Association for School Administration. His contributions have been recognized through accolades such as the Lexington District One Education Office Professionals’ Administrator of the Year award for the 2014–2015 academic year. Furthermore, he has held leadership positions within the South Carolina Association of School Administrators and received an honorary state FFA degree.
