At its June 27 board meeting, the School District Five of Lexington & Richland Counties Board of Trustees approved a proposed FY 2022-2023 budget plan that includes raises for the District’s teachers and staff. It also includes a step increase for eligible employees. The new pay scale will go into effect on July 1st.
The base salary for a new teacher with a bachelor’s degree and no experience will increase from $39,853 to $41,600. Teachers with 0-2 years of experience are also eligible for School District Five’s $2,500 New Educator Retention Incentive (NERI). NERI is a supplemental bonus for new teachers designed as a direct payment to either eligible employees or their qualifying student education loan provider.
School District Five is also currently conducting a Compensation and Classification Study to review all positions and the pay structure/system to make recommendations about
appropriate and competitive compensation.
“Our Human Resources team works hard each day to recruit great employees, and our school leaders work hard each day to retain them,” Superintendent Dr. Akil E. Ross, Sr. said. “We hope this salary increase will help with these recruitment and retention efforts. We owe
it to our students, our parents, and our community to do whatever we can to recruit and retain the best educators to love and grow our students.”
