Registration for the 4-year-old tuition-based pre-kindergarten program, EXCEL (Exposing Children to Early Learning), in Lexington-Richland School District Five at Irmo Elementary begins February 5.
Enrollment will be on a first-come, first-served basis and will be limited to 20 students. All additional children will be placed on a waiting list for the class.
The program offers students participation in developmentally appropriate, structured learning activities including mathematics, reading, social studies and science. Art, Foreign Language, PE and other special area courses also are included in the program.
“The program at Irmo Elementary offers our 4-year-old students an educational experience that includes standards-based curriculum, ability-based instruction and special area classes all taught by certified teachers,” said Michael Guliano, director of elementary education for the district. “It’s a great continuation of our efforts to make sure our community’s needs are met and students achieve success throughout their academic careers.”
EXCEL begins daily during the school week at 7:50 am with the academic school day ending at 2:40 pm On site after-school care is available through the ICRC Safari Program for an additional fee until 6 pm EXCEL follows the district’s school calendar.
Families must register for the program by visiting Irmo Elementary School. Three proofs of legal residency, the child’s birth certificate, South Carolina Certificate of Immunization, and a non-refundable registration fee of $185 to Irmo Elementary will be required to enroll. Payments can be made in cash or by check. Families will also need to complete a 4K EXCEL Family contract and complete a 4K Excel application.
